From waste to a original gift

Making a nice steampunk look

You buy something and then it is often packed in a box or can, which then ends up in the container.

Now you can often still use original gift packaging.

So keep a sturdy box or can and try making something out of it.

I have made a nice steampunk tin from a flea collar tin, and I am happy to explain how this is made.

The can is first treated with a black gesso and let it dry well, then you have a good base to work on.

Then I made the radar background with texture paste and a stencil.

Then I made the radar background with texture paste and a stencil.

Here and there some crackle paste to create a cracking effect on the edges of the can.

Let this dry again in the air, this to get the best tearing result.

Then you go looking for some decoration things, and you don't have to pay attention to the colors at all, because you won't see anything of this later.

I often use things that are ugly in color or that are damaged.

You can use wood, plastic or metal things.

You will stick this on your can, use here for a good pva glue.

Wood glue or tacky glue are very good glues for this.

Now you can choose to first treat all individual parts with black gesso or to glue everything first.

First I glue everything, and then I make everything black again with a thin layer of gesso.

Then comes the fun part, applying color to the parts so that they come out well.

You do this with acrylic paint, extreme sheen Daeco Art and with different waxes.

I use americana acrylic paint and inka gold wax from Viva.

We start with the acrylic paint, you do this without water! They call it dry brushing.

Put paint on a pallet and pick up a little bit of paint with a small firm brush.

Really only use a little bit, and rub this on your pallet or a piece of paper first so that most of the paint is already off.

After this you go over your workpiece where you want the color.

A little color is now added to this and repeat this until the desired effect is achieved.

You can do that with multiple colors.

You can also use wax. Put some wax on your finger and rub in areas you want to treat.

I use my finger for this because it gives me more control.

Have fun making your tin or box.

Christmas ball with decoupage

In the past I worked with my mother together on roof tiles and stones with napkins, this was so much fun. And the nice thing is that it is still a very nice and beautiful technique. The technique I use now is just a little different, because you work on the inside.
